News | World of Warcraft players must agree to social contract starting today

With the arrival of patch 9.2.5, World of Warcraft players must agree to a social contract  starting from today.

Anyone who starts World of Warcraft for the first time from today will be welcomed in the mmorpg with a ‘Social Contract’. Among other things, players must indicate that they will do their best to make new friends, to work together as a team with others in dungeons and raids, for example, and to answer questions from new players.

Also, as part of that social contract, Blizzard lists some behaviors that “will not be accepted”: “Hate speech and negative comments directed at other players’ identities, including aspects such as race, gender and their ability. Harassment, threats and abusive/derogatory language and behavior.” And “spamming, advertising and other disruptive behavior”.

Anyone who does not follow the rules and “harms” other players can be punished, with the maximum penalty being ban from the account. “It’s a big world, with all kinds of people in it. So please try to be respectful to each other, and if you feel someone is breaking this Code of Conduct, please report it so our team can look into it. Together we can make World of Warcraft a safe home away from home for everyone.”

News | Diablo Immortal will not appear in the Netherlands and Belgium

Diablo Immortal will not be released in the Netherlands and Belgium. This is because of 'the current operating conditions for games in those countries'.

A communication manager from Activision-Blizzard Benelux has informed Tweakers about this. The game will not be available on smartphone app stores or on Battle.net for PC.

“This is related to the current operating conditions for games in those countries,” Blizzard’s communications manager told Tweakers. This seems to mean the legislation regarding loot boxes, an important part of Diablo Immortal.

In the Netherlands, the legislation regarding loot boxes seems to be relaxed. Earlier this year, the Dutch Gaming Authority lost a lawsuit against Electronic Arts about loot boxes in Fifa. In Belgium, the rules are still strict.

In the rest of the world, Diablo Immortal will be released on June 2 on iOS, Android and PC. The PC version is an open beta. The game was made in collaboration with the Chinese internet company NetEase and is intended to bring the well-known Diablo gameplay with new storylines and characters to phones and tablets.

News | First Overwatch 2 beta invites going out tonight

The first invites to the Overwatch 2 beta will go out tonight at 8:00 PM.

Blizzard made this known in a FAQ published yesterday. People who have registered have a chance to receive an e-mail with access. It is also possible that more people will be invited at a later time, so people who do not receive an email tonight can still receive it later.

You can always register via the official website. Players must have installed the first Overwatch anyway to be in with a chance. However, the first Overwatch can be downloaded as a free trial by those who have received an invite during the beta period – so there is no need to purchase the original specifically for the beta of part 2.

Tomorrow, specific streamers will broadcast gameplay from the beta on Twitch. People who watch a stream for at least four hours can also access the beta via Twitch Drops. The list of streamers can be found here.

The beta will be on PC only and must include 5v5 gameplay. Players can try out the new Push mode as well as four new maps: Circuit Royal (escort), Midtown (hybrid), New Queen Screen (push), and Colosseo (push). The new hero Sojourn is also playable, as well as four new versions of well-known heroes: Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion and Sombra. The beta period will run until May 17.
