News | Some classic games on PlayStation Plus will include Trophies

Some classic games, including Siphon Filter, are getting Trophies on the revamped PlayStation Plus.

Sony developer Bend Studio confirmed this on Twitter. They reported that Siphon Filter will at least contain Trophies when the game becomes available on the new PlayStation Plus. “And yes, you can also unlock Platinum.”

Trophys have been around since 2008 and many of the classic games coming to PS Plus have been released before. So it seems that Sony will equip various games with Trophys, although it is not yet known for which games outside Siphon Filter it will continue.

The updated service will be available in the Netherlands from June 22. Sony recently unveiled some of the PlayStation Plus lineup.

News | PlayStation acquires Haven Studios

Sony has acquired Haven Studios, Jade Raymond's new development studio.

Last year, the new developer already received an investment from Sony and now the company has decided to take over the studio completely. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst says that Sony is very impressed with Haven’s work.

In February, it was revealed that Haven is working on a “constantly evolving online game” for PlayStation 5 and PC. It is unknown whether the acquisition will mean anything for the PC version of the yet-to-be-shown game. Sony previously announced that it has ten live service games in development for PlayStation consoles, of which Haven’s game appears to be one.

Raymond previously worked at Ubisoft on the Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell franchises, before running EA Motive for three years before joining Google Stadia.

News | Sony unveils PlayStation VR2 design

Sony has revealed the design of the PlayStation VR2 and the 'latest version' of accompanying controllers in several photos.

In line with the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller, the VR glasses themselves are designed with white and black colors. Sony emphasizes the ‘round’ appearance of the glasses, which should match the controllers well.

The most notable new feature of the goggles is a ventilation system that keeps players’ heads cool. Thanks to an ‘airflow’, which Sony compares to that in the PlayStation 5, lenses of the glasses could not fog up during gameplay.

The glasses are also generally lighter, they should be suitable for different head sizes thanks to an adjustable headband and players can adjust the lenses themselves. This makes it possible to adjust the glasses to the exact distance between the pupils of the user, which improves the experience. The PS VR2 also includes a 3.5mm jack for headphones and vibration motors.

Sony previously revealed the specifications of the PS VR2. For example, the OLED screen of the glasses is 4000 by 2040 pixels (2000 by 2040 per eye) and the field of view is 110 degrees.

Furthermore, PlayStation VR2 has inside-out tracking, so that a separate camera is not necessary. Thanks to four cameras in the device itself, there is no need for colored LEDs on the device so that you can keep track of where the player is. These cameras also track the controllers. Finally, the helmet with cameras tracks players’ eyes, allowing players to use their eyes to control the camera.

A price and release date for the PlayStation VR 2 have not yet been announced.

Ghostwire: Tokyo will be available on March 25 for PlayStation 5 and PC.

News | Sony gives new details about PlayStation VR2

Sony released new details about the PlayStation VR2 at CES 2022.

The new virtual reality headset will be officially called PlayStation VR2.
As expected, the headset shows a higher resolution than the first helmet: 4000 by 2040 pixels (or 2000 by 2040 per eye).
The HDR screen is an OLED, just like on the PSVR, but the field of view is 10 degrees more than the predecessor at 110 degrees.

Furthermore, PlayStation VR2 has inside-out tracking, so that a separate camera is not necessary.
Thanks to four cameras in the device itself, there is no need for colored LEDs on the device to keep track of where the player is.
These cameras also track the controllers. Also, in the helmet with cameras, players’ eyes are tracked, allowing players to use their eyes to control the camera.

Finally, both the helmet and the previously revealed controllers have vibrating motors that impart vibrations. The controllers are officially called the PlayStation VR2 Sense and, as previously announced, have adaptive triggers, finger detection and haptic feedback.
The PlayStation VR2 itself has not yet been shown.
It’s also not known when the helmet will be released, although it’s rumored to be going into mass production soon.

The full specs of PlayStation VR2 can be found on PlayStation Blog.
A game for PlayStation VR2 was also announced: Horizon Call of the Mountain.
