News | The Last of Us multiplayer game canceled

The multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe has been canceled.

Developer Naughty Dog announced this in a official statement. Although no official name was previously communicated, the company calls the game “The Last of Us Online” in the statement.

“There’s no easier way to say this: we have made the incredibly difficult decision to halt development of this game. We understand that this news is being taken hard by many of you, especially the The Last of Us Factions community who fervently followed our multiplayer ambitions.” Factions was the name of the multiplayer mode in the first The Last of Us.

The multiplayer game was already in development around the same time that the company was working on The Last of Us: Part 2. It was always the intention that the multiplayer game would be released as a standalone experience. Over the years, Naughty Dog gradually released information and artwork. Earlier this year, the company indicated that it needed more time for the game, but according to rumors, development behind the scenes was slow. Later in the year, there were rumors of layoffs at Naughty Dog and the possibility that the game’s development had been halted.

“While we were in full production, the incredible scale of our ambition became clear to us. To release and continue to support The Last of Us Online, we would need to dedicate our entire studio to continue releasing content in the years following release , which would have a significant impact on the development of future single-player games. So we had the choice of two options: become a full live-service game studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that Naughty Dog is known for.”

It goes without saying that the studio has chosen the second option. The company says it has more than one “completely new single-player games” in development, and a PS5 remaster of the second The Last of Us game will be released in January.

News | Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer free to play this weekend

Starting tomorrow night, Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer will be available to play for free on consoles and PC for an entire weekend.

Activision has confirmed that. The free version will be available from tomorrow 19:00 CET and will run until November 22. Officially, the free multiplayer weekend is to celebrate the arrival of the new version of the Shipment map, which is available in the game starting today. Still, the free weekend is striking, given that Vanguard is only a little over two weeks out.

According to the first reports, sales figures for the game are therefore lower than previous Call of Duty games. Vanguard faces a lot of competition in the form of Battlefield 2042 which is playable in Early Access since last week and the Monday suddenly launched free multiplayer of Halo Infinite.

News | Naughty Dog is looking for employees for multiplayer project

Developer Naughty Dog is looking for employees through job openings for an upcoming standalone multiplayer project.

Most likely this refers to the multiplayer mode of The Last of Us: Part 2 shrouded in mystery. That mode will be stand-alone and has been announced for some time, but details or images are missing for the time being.

The developer’s website lists several job openings for those experienced in multiplayer games, including a position for someone who can design the environments of levels in multiplayer games.

Naughty Dog describes the multiplayer project as follows: “Help Naughty Dog on its latest adventure – the studio’s first standalone multiplayer game! We want to bring the same level of ambition and quality of our signature story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project.”

The first The Last of Us game did have a multiplayer mode called Factions. It seems the Sony developer has bigger plans for the sequel’s standalone multiplayer.

News | Free dlc for Cyberpunk 2077 will be released early next year

The first free downloadable content for Cyberpunk 2077 should be released early next year.

An official website for the game’s DLC has been launched, stating that the free DLC should be released in early 2021. Further details are not known, so it is not clear what exactly the downloadable content includes.

Developer CD Projekt Red previously indicated that it planned to release about the same amount of DLC as for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That game got two major paid add-ons and sixteen minor free downloads.

There were many bugs in Cyberpunk 2077 at launch. Especially the version on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 did not run properly, the game was even pulled from the PlayStation Store. CD Projekt has promised to release major updates for PS4 and Xbox One early next year, so that the game should run better on the systems. Apparently this did not affect the plans for the free DLC.

In addition to the paid and free downloadable content, a multiplayer mode should also come to Cyberpunk 2077. It is not yet known when this will appear.

The multiplayer modes should actually have been added to the game next week. It involves cooperative free-roaming in the game world and missions for two to four players. PvP Challenges would also be added.

All of this is now being postponed to next year. The developer is eager to fix these issues and won’t stop until everyone can experience the game as intended.”

Update 2.20 should be released for the game later this week, which will fix various bugs, crashes and issues with save files.
