News | The Day Before studio closes doors, sales of game stopped

Fntastic, the developer of the controversial game The Day Before, has closed its doors. The game has also been removed from sale.

The Day Before was released on December 7 after several delays, and four days later Fnastic announced that the studio was closing. “Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially and we no longer have any money to continue operating. Everything we have earned will be used to pay off our debts to partners.”

The company continues: “We put all our effort, resources and hours into developing The Day Before, which was our first major game. We would have loved to release new patches to reveal the game’s full potential, but unfortunately we cannot don’t pay that.” As far as we know, the game’s servers will remain live for now.

The Day Before was surrounded by controversy before its release. Many gamers feared that it was a scam by developer Fntastic, and the game was postponed several times – partly because there were problems with the rights surrounding the name of the game.

Last Thursday, The Day Before was released on Steam, but soon the player reviews were “overwhelmingly negative”. SteamDB also shows that the number of players dropped quickly after release day.

Players reported many bugs and a lack of features. It turned out that it was not an open-world MMO at all, as the developer indicated in advance, but rather an extraction-like shooter. Furthermore, there were all kinds of bizarre advertisements in the game and almost the entire game world seemed to be built from ready-made Unreal Engine assets.

News | Arkane Lyon develops game based on Marvel's Blade

Arkane Lyon is developing Blade, a game based on Marvel's anti-hero of the same name.

Marvel’s Dinga Bakaba and Bill Roseman unveiled the game during The Game Awards last night. The game will take place in a part of Paris that is under quarantine during a supernatural emergency. Vampires have appeared on the scene and it is up to Blade to keep the residents of Paris safe.

According to Rosemann, the game is partly being developed to celebrate Blade’s fiftieth anniversary year. Arkane’s Bakaba says it was a dream of his to be able to work on the Blade franchise.

Arkane is known for its immersive games, such as Prey, Deathloop and Dishonored.

It is not yet known when and on which systems Blade will appear, although it is likely that this will include at least PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S and PC.

Santa Monica Studio is working on a free expansion for God of War Ragnarök called Valhalla.

This was announced during The Game Awards last night. This is a new roguelike mode that will be available on December 12 for all owners of the game on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

“Join Kratos to Valhalla for a deeply personal and reflective journey into a future he never envisioned. Overcome challenges of mind and body on an adventure that brings the beloved combat from God of War Ragnarök with completely new elements inspired by roguelike genre.”

On PlayStation Blog, the developer indicates that the DLC will be released for free to thank players. “Each attempt in Valhalla motivates you to learn different aspects of Kratos’ arsenal, while encountering new combinations of enemies and a few surprises.”

There were already rumors earlier this year that DLC for God of War Ragnarök was in the works. However, it was then reported that the DLC would not be released until next year, but this turns out to be incorrect.

The trailer clearly shows that the game takes place in Vice City and the surrounding area and that two main characters, a man and a woman, will play the leading roles in this GTA.

News | Bioware shows new images of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Bioware has released a short new trailer for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. This also makes it clear that the full reveal of the game will take place in the summer of 2024.

The trailer mainly shows some in-game locations. Like previous parts, the game takes place in the country of Thedas, but according to a new blog, this game should show much more of the country.

For example, the trailer shows the city of Antiva, the coastal area of Rivain and the stormy Anderfels. According to the description, it is a “vibrant land full of harsh wilderness, treacherous labyrinths and beautiful cities – immersed in barbaric battles and secret magic.”

It has been known for several years that Bioware is working on a new Dragon Age, but last year it was revealed that the game is called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Solas, the Dread Wolf, has an important role in the game. He also appeared in Inquisition.

The game will be released on an unknown date on PC, Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation 5.

The game’s online servers are not immediately available at that time. That only happens a few hours after release. According to Studio Wildcard, this is to give every player a fair chance to participate in a session. The developer does not mention an exact time.

Ark: Survival Ascended was previously released on Xbox Series X and S and PC. It is a remake of the original Ark, running on Unreal Engine 5. The new version also contains an improved user interface, new options to customize characters and split-screen multiplayer.

The PC version of Assassin's Creed Syndicate can currently be claimed for free.

Ubisoft is giving away the game via Ubisoft Connect. The game can be claimed until December 6.

News | Assassin's Creed Mirage studio continues to work on the franchise

Ubisoft Bordeaux, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Mirage released earlier this year, continues to work on the Assassin's Creed franchise.

This is evident from a tweet from Rik Godwin, who reports that he has completed his first week as head writer at the studio. He specifically mentions that he is working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

It is not clear what exactly is in development, but since Mirage has already been released and it is unlikely that DLC will appear for it, it could be a new game – although it is also possible that the studio will support other Ubisoft teams with the development of AC games.

Ubisoft Bordeaux also worked on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC Wrath of the Druids and the live versions of the games Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Rainbow Six Extraction.
