News | Weta Workshop and Take-Two team up on Middle-earth game
Weta Workshop and Take-Two Interactive are developing a game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth Universe.
The companies announced this via a press release and social media. The game is being developed by Weta Workshop, the New Zealand company behind the special effects in The Lord of the Ring films and series and The Hobbit films. The company founded its own game studio in 2014.
Private Division, a Take-Two publishing label, is releasing the game. Previously, games such as The Outer Worlds and OlliOlli World were released through the label. Details about the Middle-earth game itself are not yet available. It is clear that the development is still at an early stage and that the game should be released sometime in fiscal year 2024. It’s not the only game based on Tolkien’s stories in development. Daedalic Entertainment has been working on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for quite some time now. That game was originally supposed to be released on September 1, but has since been delayed by “a few months”, although a new release date has not been announced.
News | Stealth is key in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
During the Nacon Connect yesterday, a new gameplay trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was shown.
The video shows how stealth plays an important role , after all, Gollum loses his beloved ring to Bilbo Baggins, forcing him to embark on an epic journey through Middle-Earth to find it.
Also part of the game is Gollum’s conflict with his alter-ego Smeagol, and the player can influence this through the choices he makes in the game. “You have Smeagol choices and Gollum choices,” Daedelic Entertainment CEO Carsten Fichtelmann said earlier.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum releases September 1 on Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One. The Switch version should be released sometime later this year.
News | The Lord of the Rings: Gollum postponed to 2022
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will no longer be released this year, but 2022.
Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment have announced this. Due to the delay, the companies want to ensure that the game exceeds fan expectations.
The game, based on the character from The Lord of the Rings, must be set for the movies and books. Gollum is the character in the books who has owned the ring for quite some time and then does everything he can to get it back.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is due to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and PC.
