A closed beta for the PlayStation 5 version of Sea of Thieves will be held this weekend.

Developer Rare announced this via social media. The beta starts on Friday, April 12 at 11:00 AM Dutch time and runs until April 15. People gain access by pre-ordering the game via the PlayStation Store. Participants will also unlock the Dauntless Adventurer Sales and Title. Participants will also automatically receive ten levels of Renown for the Season 12 battle pass.

Sea of Thieves will be available on PlayStation 5 from April 30. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it will also bring games that were previously exclusively released on Xbox and PC to PlayStation and Switch. The first games included in this are, in addition to Sea of Thieves, also Grounded, Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush.

Last week, Rare revealed more information about the PS5 version of the game. For example, the game on PS5 uses the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback of the DualSense controller and you can choose between two graphic modes. Progress made from the Xbox and PC versions is included because people have to link the game to their Microsoft account.


News | Season 8 of Sea Of Thieves kicks off November 22

Developer Rare announced this on Twitter. The new season promises to bring new Adventures and Mysteries, as well as a new Plunder Pass.

In addition, the developer announces that it will broadcast a live stream on November 18, revealing more new content from the eighth season. Also shown during the live stream are the results of the ‘Return of the Damned’ adventure, in which players could make a choice that will affect the game’s storyline.


News | Sea of Thieves adventure Lost Sands starts May 26

The sixth season of Sea of Thieves concludes with a new adventure called Lost Sands, which starts on May 26.

Developer Rare has revealed this in a new trailer. It is the fourth part of the Season 6 story and is unique in that it gives players the chance to choose an in-game faction with permanent consequences for the game world, and in particular the Golden Sands island that takes center stage this season .

One can choose to join the Reaper’s Bones, leaving the site in ruins. People who don’t join that are in favor of rebuilding Golden Sands. The adventure ends on June 9 – then it should become clear which faction has gained the upper hand.

Rare adds "Mysteries" to Sea of Thieves, riddles that are solved partly inside and partly outside the game.

Mysteries are in fact riddles to be solved. These riddles are partly solved in the game, but hints can also be found outside the game, for example via social media.

Mysteries are not solved individually by players, but by the entire community together. Progress made is visible to all players. In this way, Rare hopes that players will work together to solve everything. In that sense, Mysteries are somewhat reminiscent of an ARG.

The description is pretty vague for now, but Rare promises that when the first Mystery starts sometime later this week, things will become clearer. The first Mystery should in any case be an investigation into a murder.

Players experience, together with the crew of Captain Pendragon, typical pirate adventures and must complete all sorts of tasks and missions for him.

In addition to the story-driven update, a new danger is also being introduced, namely fire. This means that players can fire bombs at each other for the first time. In addition, controlled fires can get out of hand, for example when roasting a fish.

Incidentally, Rare unveiled their latest game Everwild yesterday, but according to the developer this means nothing for the maintenance of Sea of ​​Thieves. Players can still expect the same effort from the team as before.
