News | Sony is considering postponing Horizon Forbidden West to 2022

Sony may consider delaying Horizon Forbidden West to 2022.

That’s what journalist Jeff Grubb claims in a new episode of the paid Giant Bomb Show. He would have heard from a source that it is likely that Sony will postpone the game to next year. “I’m not sure – I think it’s still undecided – but I think they are leaning towards a 2022 release.”

Horizon Zero Dawn was announced last year. Since then, however, Sony has not stated a concrete release date for the game, but Guerrilla has previously announced that it is aiming for a release in 2021.

As for a new State of Play livestream, Grubb reports, “I’ve heard things, but I’m not sure yet. I’ve heard it’s coming in September. I think with that they’re saying, ‘here are other things we’re getting this fall. don’t worry,” but I think Forbidden West will be out in 2022.”

Sony and developer Guerrilla Games have not commented or confirmed any of the rumors. PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said last month that release dates may shift. “We have two really big story-driven games in development: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War. With Horizon we are on track to get out around the holidays. But that’s not certain yet – we’re working as hard as possible so we can confirm as soon as possible.”

News | Dutchman Hermen Hulst new head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios

PlayStation has announced that Hermen Hulst, former Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, will be the new head of SIE Worldwide Studios.

Hulst started at Worldwide Studios effective immediately  and will deal with the game projects of all fourteen Sony internal studios. The position was previously filled by Shuhei Yoshida. It is now known that Yoshida will play a different role within the organization. He will lead a new initiative that will deal with external, independent studios.

In a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, stated that the appointment of Hulst is a sign of global thinking at Sony in the process of transition to the next generation.
“Hermen is a European and is going to take over one of the main PlayStation offices, I think everyone in Europe should be proud and excited that this happened,” said Jim Ryan.

According to Ryan, Hermen Hulst is one of the most effective and respected leaders in the game industry. Furthermore, Ryan says that Hulst performs his work passionately and is an example to his staff. Ryan has no doubt that Hulst can live up to its status within SIE Worldwide.

These position changes are part of the restructuring within Sony Interactive Entertainment in the run-up to PlayStation 5. Earlier, PlayStation Worldwide Studios president Shawn Layden left Sony. No specific reason was given for his departure at the time, but there is a chance that this may also be due to the restructuring of the tech giant.

Guerrilla Games is best known for Horizon Zero Dawn and the Killzone franchise. In addition, the studio recently collaborated with Kojima Productions during the making of Death Stranding. Hermen Hulst’s position within Guerrilla Games is now being filled by Angie Smets, Jan-Bart van Beek and Michiel van der Leeuw. A recent Job opportonity from Guerrilla Games may have confirmed that the Amsterdam studio is currently working on a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.

Not only is Sony happy with the appointment of Hulst, Hermen is also happy with his new position. “I have been working closely with the SIE Worldwide family since 2001 and have the utmost respect and admiration for the network of studios,” says Hulst.

News | Available job offer at Guerrilla Studios may hint to Horizon Zero Dawn 2

Previously, job vacancies seemed to confirm the arrival of Horizon Zero Dawn 2, but there is no longer any doubt about that.

The job offer in question opens with the following: “Within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the beautiful landscapes of Horizon.” The vacancy requires a technical vegitation artist who will help create vegetation to world of the unnamed game. Experience with creating vegetation is also very important for an open world.

Another vacancy requires a principal animator for living world, this employee will work on cities, villages, cultures and societies.

Earlier there was hinted at the sequel to the wildly popular game Horizon Zero Dawn. “Wait until you see the sequel,” said actress Janina Gavanker during a Twitch stream earlier this year. Although this offer does not specifically mention “Horizon Zero Dawn 2”, it is strongly hinted at.

The first game has sold millions of copies within a short time and has won a Golden Calf, many fans of the game are looking forward to a sequel.

If Horizon Zero Dawn 2 comes out, it’s probably for the next generation of consoles. The PlayStation 5 is planned for the end of next year and since nothing has been announced so far about a continuation of Horizon Zero Dawn, there is little chance that the game will be released for the current generation.
