News | Horizon Forbidden West Patch Adds VRR And 120Hz Mode

A new update to Horizon Forbidden West has been added that includes support for variable refresh rate (VRR) monitors.

The brand new patch is patch 1.17. New is the variable refresh rate support; With VRR, the game’s frames per second are synchronized with the frames per second that the monitor can display, which in theory should reduce the number of dips in framerate and other graphical issues. It should also improve the dynamic resolution at 60hz.

An ‘HFR’ (high refresh rate) mode has also been added for 120 Hz monitors, which aims for a refresh rate of between 60 Hz and 120 Hz. There’s also a ‘Balanced’ mode, which targets 40hz for monitors that support that.

The patch, available for download on both PS4 and PS5, further improves a range of issues, including crashes. Also several bugs in some main and side missions have been fixed, for example the failure to update the objectives of the missions. Finally, fixes for world activities, the in-game machines, weapons, the user interface and localization issues have been made.

Five new screenshots have been released of Horizon Forbidden West showing the game's opening area.

The screenshots were released by Game Informer, who have an exclusive feature around the game in their latest issue. The screenshots show an area called the Daunt, which lies to the east of Sundom. In this area, players mainly get to know the new gameplay of the game before heading to the ‘Forbidden West’ with main character Aloy.

In Horizon Forbidden West, players like Aloy explore a new area on the west coast of the United States. The game includes a free climbing system and underwater worlds. Like the first game, the game is being developed by the Amsterdam based Guerrilla Games. Horizon Forbidden West will be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 from February 18, 2022.

News | Sony is considering postponing Horizon Forbidden West to 2022

Sony may consider delaying Horizon Forbidden West to 2022.

That’s what journalist Jeff Grubb claims in a new episode of the paid Giant Bomb Show. He would have heard from a source that it is likely that Sony will postpone the game to next year. “I’m not sure – I think it’s still undecided – but I think they are leaning towards a 2022 release.”

Horizon Zero Dawn was announced last year. Since then, however, Sony has not stated a concrete release date for the game, but Guerrilla has previously announced that it is aiming for a release in 2021.

As for a new State of Play livestream, Grubb reports, “I’ve heard things, but I’m not sure yet. I’ve heard it’s coming in September. I think with that they’re saying, ‘here are other things we’re getting this fall. don’t worry,” but I think Forbidden West will be out in 2022.”

Sony and developer Guerrilla Games have not commented or confirmed any of the rumors. PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said last month that release dates may shift. “We have two really big story-driven games in development: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War. With Horizon we are on track to get out around the holidays. But that’s not certain yet – we’re working as hard as possible so we can confirm as soon as possible.”
