News | Gwent: Rogue Mage now available on PC, iOS and Android

CD Projekt Red today released roguelike deckbuilder Gwent: Rogue Mage on PC and mobile.

The developer announced the game out of the blue yesterday. The game is a single player expansion to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, but standalone and can be played by anyone.

Logically, the game uses many of the same game mechanics as Gwent, but in this case it is a PvE experience. Players explore a procedurally generated game card, engage in card battles, and unlock new cards for their deck. Players can also make various moral choices that are characteristic of the franchise.

Set hundreds of years before The Witcher hero Geralt of Rivia is born, the game revolves around the mage Alzur, whose mission is to create the very first Witcher. However, according to director Vladimir Tortsov, the game’s story should not be seen as official lore.

The game costs 9.99 euros, but for 19.99 euros you can buy a Deluxe Edition with, among other things, a multiplayer mode. For now, there are no plans to release Rogue Mage on consoles.

CD Projekt also released a standalone Gwent game with a focus on single player in 2018 called Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. In this, the focus was mainly on the story, the characters and RPG elements, while Rogue Mage mainly revolves around the Gwent gameplay.

Earlier, the developer announced that it is working on the next main game in The Witcher franchise. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, but nothing else is known yet.
