News | First major Cyberpunk 2077 expansion coming in 2023

The first paid expansion to Cyberpunk 2077 is due out sometime next year.

CD Projekt Red announced this yesterday during the presentation of its quarterly figures. Apart from the fact that there is a new storyline, the company did not give any details about what the expansion entails, but it is clear that players no longer have to count on it this year.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in late 2020 and was criticized for the state of the game. Last year and this year, the developer has released several updates to get the game up to standard.

As well as working on an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red is also working on a current gen update for The Witcher 3. That update was originally supposed to be released during the current quarter, but has now been postponed indefinitely. The company also announced earlier this year that it was working on a new The Witcher game. Work is also underway on a spin-off of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and several unannounced projects in concept phase.

News | CD Projekt Red Announces New The Witcher Game

CD Projekt Red is working on a new game in the The Witcher franchise. The game will run on Unreal Engine 5.

The company has disclosed this on its official website. The Polish studio already has three The Witcher games to its name – including the successful The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It also has a spin-off around Gwent, the card game from The Witcher 3, made.

“We’re pleased to announce that the next installment in The Witcher game series is currently in development and is a new saga for the franchise.” What is meant by the latter is unknown, but previously CD Projekt explicitly stated that it only had plans for a trilogy around Geralt of Rivia. The new game may therefore revolve around a different main character, although this has not yet been confirmed. The artwork below that shows a new medallion also seems to hint at that.

Furthermore, CD Projekt Red says it is working closely with Epic Games , even a multi-year strategic partnership has been signed. The new The Witcher game will therefore not run on the usual REDengine, but on Unreal Engine 5. This does not mean that the game will be released exclusively on PC on Epic Games Store: the developer has announced via social media that the game is not exclusive. will appear on one digital store.

There are no further details yet. The company also couldn’t say how far the game is in development or when the game should be released. CD Projekt Red did report that the REDengine is still being used for the development of an upcoming expansion to Cyberpunk 2077. In 2020, the company already announced that it would start on a new The Witcher game shortly after the release of Cyberpunk 2077.

News | Modder Adds Working Subway System to Cyberpunk 2077

The modder keanuWheeze has added a working subway system to Cyberpunk 2077.

This mod allows players to use an overhead subway to quickly travel to different locations in the game. You can also look outside during the ride to view Night City.

While fast travel is in the game, the modder has incorporated the subway system into the game to make the idea of fast travel from point A to B more realistic. The Metro City mod is available here. In the gif below you can see what it looks like to travel by metro.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia. In the course of 2022, an upgrade should be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

News | New-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 postponed to 2022

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series updates for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have been delayed to 2022.

Developer CD Projekt Red announced this yesterday. The team that oversees the development of both updates has recommended that the releases be postponed. “We apologize for the long wait, but we want to make sure it’s done right.”

The update for Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released sometime in Q1 2022, while the update for The Witcher 3 will be released sometime in Q2 2022. Both updates, which make the games look better and run on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, were actually planned for the end of this year.

The delay of the The Witcher 3 update is particularly surprising: earlier this week it appeared that PEGI had provided the new-gen version of the game with an age rating, which led many people to assume that the update was imminent.

News | Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer may still be in development

Modders have found mentions of a multiplayer mode in the code of the most recent Cyberpunk 2077 patch.

Tyler McVicker reports in a video that in patch 1.3, modders have found terms like “MultiplayerScanDirectory” and “MultiplayerGymsDirectory.” There were also folders that refer to ‘multi’ and ’test’. This would possibly suggest that the developer is testing a multiplayer mode internally.

It was originally intended that after the release of Cyberpunk 2077, a standalone multiplayer game set in the same virtual world would appear. Earlier this year, however, CD Projekt Red indicated that this was no longer the intention. However, there may still be a multiplayer mode for the game, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

Incidentally, the code also mentioned two expansions, called ‘ep1’ and ‘ep2’, along with about 24 free DLCs.
