News | World of Warcraft players must agree to social contract starting today

With the arrival of patch 9.2.5, World of Warcraft players must agree to a social contract  starting from today.

Anyone who starts World of Warcraft for the first time from today will be welcomed in the mmorpg with a ‘Social Contract’. Among other things, players must indicate that they will do their best to make new friends, to work together as a team with others in dungeons and raids, for example, and to answer questions from new players.

Also, as part of that social contract, Blizzard lists some behaviors that “will not be accepted”: “Hate speech and negative comments directed at other players’ identities, including aspects such as race, gender and their ability. Harassment, threats and abusive/derogatory language and behavior.” And “spamming, advertising and other disruptive behavior”.

Anyone who does not follow the rules and “harms” other players can be punished, with the maximum penalty being ban from the account. “It’s a big world, with all kinds of people in it. So please try to be respectful to each other, and if you feel someone is breaking this Code of Conduct, please report it so our team can look into it. Together we can make World of Warcraft a safe home away from home for everyone.”

Players must choose between two golden Legendaries: Vanndar Stormpike of the Alliance or Drek’Thar of the Horde. Both cards cost 4 mana and have 4/4 stats. Also introduced is a new keyword in the form of Honorable Kill, which can be used when a card deals just enough damage to take out the enemy.

News | Blizzard Unveils Last Major Update for World of Warcraft Shadowlands

Blizzard has announced the last major content update for World of Warcraft Shadowlands.

Update 9.2 is called Eternity’s End and should be released soon, although an exact release date is not known. The update should bring the story of the WoW expansion to a conclusion.

Blizzard hints at a new zone called Zereth Mortis in the video below. This is home to the First Ones, the “mysterious architects of the Shadowlands’ afterlife”. The update also includes a new raid, called Sepulcher of the First ones. In this, players end up fighting the Jailer. The large dungeon Tazavesh is split in two. Both will be available on heroic and Mythic+.

These are turbulent times for World of Warcraft and Blizzard. The company is being sued along with Activision for toxic work behavior and several employees have resigned or been fired. This month, Jen Oneal, who had been part-head of Blizzard for just three months, left. She took over from Mike Ybarra, who previously headed the publisher. In addition, the amount of monthly players of Blizzard games continues to decrease, although no precise player numbers of World of Warcraft are known.

News | Activision Blizzard Employees Strike Today

Activision Blizzard employees plan to go on strike today, amid the toxic work environment within the publisher.

The strike takes place today at Blizzard’s campus in Irvine, California. The strike is both to support workers who have suffered from the toxic work culture and to criticize Activision Blizzard’s response to the allegations. The strike will start at 7:00 PM Dutch time and will run until 11:00 PM.

Employees have also released a list of requirements that they want the company to meet. For example, contracts must be overhauled, so that abusers within the company are no longer protected and victims can make a stand against them. The way in which recruitment and promotion is carried out within the publisher must also be overhauled. They also want Activision Blizzard to publish salary data and improve working conditions for all employees.

Last week, the state of California sued Activision Blizzard for discrimination and sexual harassment, based on two years of investigation. Within the company, discrimination is alleged to take place in various ways, including promotions and salary, especially among women. They would also be sexually harassed in the workplace.

It was revealed yesterday that more than 1,500 current and former Activision Blizzard employees have signed a letter condemning the company’s response to recent allegations. There are now more than 2000. The letter was drawn up after the company’s response to the allegations. An internal memo from chief compliance officer Frances Townsend also leaked. According to Townsend, the allegations paint a “distorted and inaccurate picture of the publisher and use factually incorrect, old and out of context stories”. Activision Blizzard’s public response and internal memo are said to be “abhorrent and offensive to everything we believe the company should stand for.”

News | Over 1,500 Activision Blizzard Employees Condemn Leadership

More than 1,500 current and former Activision Blizzard employees have signed a letter condemning the company's response to recent allegations.

Last week, the state of California sued Activision Blizzard for discrimination and sexual harassment, based on two years of investigation. Within the company, discrimination is alleged to take place in various ways, including promotions and salary, especially among women. They would also be sexually harassed in the workplace.

The letter, now signed by more than 1,500 employees, was drafted following the company’s response to the allegations. An internal memo from chief compliance officer Frances Townsend also leaked. According to Townsend, the allegations paint a “distorted and inaccurate picture of the publisher and use factually incorrect, old and out of context stories”.

Activision Blizzard’s public response and internal memo are said to be “abhorrent and offensive to everything we believe the company should stand for.” The letter reads: “We believe these statements damage our continued pursuit of equality within and outside our industry.” According to the letter, “it creates doubts about whether our company can hold the abusers accountable for their actions and whether it can create a safe work environment for victims who want to express themselves in the future. The statements make it clear that our leadership does not change our values. first place.”

The letter also demands that Townsend step down from her position as executive sponsor of the Activision Blizzard King Employee Women’s Network. Also, employees want company leadership to work with them to make sure employees have “a safe place to speak up.” A full version of the letter can be read on Kotaku.

The toxic work culture within Activision Blizzard and the company’s response to the allegations has been puzzling within the publisher. For example, senior developer Jeff Hamilton reports that almost all work on World of Warcraft has been stopped.

The California indictment cited several examples of toxic work behavior within Activision Blizzard. For example, executives would try to seduce female employees and women are less likely to be promoted – because they could possibly become pregnant. Criticism would also be expressed when children have to be picked up from daycare. Male executives would joke about rape. Reference is also made to an employee who committed suicide on a business trip, who allegedly suffered from sexual harassment before her death. For example, nude photos of her would have been sent around at a company party.

The purpose of the indictment is to ensure a safer work environment at Activision Blizzard, as well as to ensure that salaries are equalized.

News | Two games added to Blizzard Arcade Collection

Blizzard has added two new games to Blizzard Arcade Collection: Lost Vikings 2 and RPM Racing.

Since release, the collection has included the first Lost Vikings, Rock ’n Roll Racing and Blackthorne. The three games originally appeared in the 1990s. The collection includes both the original games and Definitive Editions with widescreen support.

With the free update, Lost Vikings 2 and RPM Racing have also been added to the pack. Lost Vikings 2 is logically the sequel to the cooperative action platformer and RPM Racing is a prequel to Rock ’n Roll Racing.

The in-game Design Documents gallery has also been updated to allow players to find out more about the development of the two added games.

Finally, a ‘streamer mode’ has been added to Rock ’n Roll Racing. As a result, the licensed soundtrack is replaced with midi versions of the songs, so streamers can broadcast images with sound from the game without getting into trouble.

The collection is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It is also playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S via backward compatibility.
