News | Extensive footage of Dune: Awakening shown

Not only was a new trailer shown with gameplay footage of the survival mmo, it was also explained how the game relates to the books and films. Both videos can be seen below, as well as the entire livestream.

Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO with an open game world. In the game, players must survive on Arrakis. People must build shelters from sandstorms and learn to walk the “old way” to avoid sandworms. People are looking for ‘spice’ with their own harvester. Spice can give players special powers.

The iconic sandworms from the franchise are also present in Awakening. The developer reports that these worms cannot be ridden in the game at release – although it is not ruled out that this will be added in the future.

The game is being developed by Funcom, but it was previously announced that the Dutch studio Abstraction is helping with the development. Dune: Awakening will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S at an undisclosed date.
