EA has started conducting playtests of Project Rene, the new The Sims game.

The company made this known in an extensive new video about the game, which can be viewed below. Director Gran Rodiek reports that the internal tests being held are “just the beginning of an incredibly long journey”.

A small selection of players can test specific parts of the game in these tests. For example, people could already try out adjusting furniture, whereby, for example, the style of a certain item can be copied to another item.

EA announced Project Rene last year. “We’re building a next-generation Sims game that also serves as a creative platform,” said Franchise Vice President Lyndsay Pearson. “We’re reinventing The Sims you know and love with new ways to play. This is the future of The Sims, built on the foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories.”

Unique to the game will be that players can work alone or with others. In addition, not only patterns and colors of objects such as furniture can be adjusted, but even the shape of objects. Furthermore, EA emphasizes that the same experience must be offered on all available platforms, including mobile.

EA will need to share more videos about Project Rene over time. It is speculated that the game will eventually evolve into The Sims 5, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
